INT. GREY DINGY CAFE-BAR - NIGHT

A YOUNG WOMAN (28) sits alone on a bar stool, her back to the camera. Still. Silent. Almost blending into the gloom of the cafe.

A long counter lined with barstools. The place is slightly unkempt. Chairs are stacked upside down on tables. Only a couple of dim lights remain on. A grimy coffee machine sits abandoned behind the counter. A tall, rough-looking man cleans the bar table. Large glass windows, streaked and stained, catch fragments of the outside light.

It drizzles outside. A neon red light flickers from the hoarding outside the bar cafe.

CLOSE SHOT: A brown bag thrown on the bar table. A beautiful, shiny blue silk scarf with the pointed part of a blood-stained knife sticking out.

The woman smoothly covers the knife with the scarf as the man comes nearer to serve hot coffee from the other side of the bar table.

ROUGH LOOKING MAN
(disinterestedly)
Your coffee.
YOUNG WOMAN
(whispers)
Thanks.

The young woman extends her right hand to take the cup. Her back slumps and neck bends down.

The wind chimes hanging on the door tinkles as a man walks in.

The young woman jerks straight, lifts her head and turns slightly towards the sound.

It is too dark to see even that slight profile of her face.

INT. APARTMENT LIVING ROOM - DAY

MADHAVI (30) walks into the apartment with the wind chimes tinkling as she opens the door. Pretty with short neck length hair and light brown eyes.

ANITA (28), a slim pretty lady with long waist length hair, pushes up her reading glasses and jumps up from her round dinner table. Walks to Madhavi with a smile and hugs her. Almost pulls her inside, in haste.

MADHAVI
(looks at the table and laughs)
As your best friend from college, I should have been used to this by now... your dining table having more books, Post-its and papers than actual food. Do I ever get a proper meal at your place?
ANITA
(smiles absentmindedly)
Not in this lifetime. I’m feeding your soul here. Your stomach can fend for itself somewhere else.

Madhavi shrugs and sits down.

MADHAVI
So... what was the emergency that I absolutely had to come at 8am. I have thirty minutes before I go, pretend history matters to teenagers.
